Printmaking Projects
Look It's Freakin' Bats
Above is a relief print from a an MDF woodcut. The prompt was to create a triangular composition that loosely interprets the theme of "Migration" or "Immigration". This piece is a representation of bats in migration. Their flight paths seem quite chaotic so I went for an abstract approach and created an irregular pattern to represent that.
This piece was apart of a traveling student show called The ImMigration Project that reached Italy, Puerto Rico, and Los Angeles. It ran in 2019 by the SGC International organization.
Eat It
Above is a copper plate etching. You will see an image of the copper plate and process photo of me inking the plate near the bottom. The concept for the print was inspired by the biblical story of Adam and Eve and the mushroom fungi. I replaced the apple with a psychedelic mushroom to discuss the negative stigmas towards psychedelics. Currently in most countries it's illegal to ingest and grow plants with psychedelic properties. There is also a negative social construct that stems from the 1960s-70s' hippie era and war on drugs that is still prevalent today. Magic mushrooms and other plants, like peyote and ayahuasca, have been a part of old cultures and religions for generations and have only recently been frowned upon and demonized. This etching is a representation of the war on drugs and magic mushrooms, more specifically. There are only 7 total prints.
(Top Left) This is an image of the copper plate after it had soaked in harsh chemicals for 90 minutes. The chemicals cause the metal to eat away and create these deep grooves where the ink will populate.
(Right) I used a split fountain inking method to achieve the pink to purple gradient.
Printemps
Above is a multi layer relief print of a nature inspired mandala pattern. Printemps is a french word that means “spring” and it just so happens to have the english word “print” in it. I used an MDF woodcut that was partially carved with a laser and partially carved by hand. The embossed print is only the laser carving, I hadn’t carved anything with my hands yet. That rusty color comes from the burnt ash left behind by the laser! You can check out what the woodcut looked like right after burning on my Instagram.

Above is a multi layer screen print of a circuit board with warped sunflowers growing out of the circuits. There was no prompt or messaging really, the goal of this project was to experiment with how we created our color layers in the screen printing process.
Big Ugly Head
This hand-sewn screen printed book was a class collaboration between 8 classmates and I. We were each assigned a specific part of the face and were told to make it horrendous. We all printed two layers of the same ink and then puzzled the prints together to make a face. Before printing we utilized photoshop to put together all of our pieces and mesh together seamlessly. The end game was to have it be kept in the university’s library, so we decided to sew together a book for each of us to take home and one extra to leave in the library.
Wordy Mandala
This screen print started in Procreate experimenting with the radial tool. I wrote words and phrases along the mirror lines and played with many different brushes to create the above mandalas. I then dropped them all into Illustrator and began to deconstruct and reconstruct the shapes to get different shapes. To be real here, I don’t remember/ lost track of what words are in these mandalas due to the scrambling done in Illustrator.
